Web design for driving instructors, from £395
The franchise fee never stops, and the pupil belongs to the school rather than to you. Going independent is not a marketing problem, it is a findability problem.
Learners look in three places: Google, the map, and whoever a friend names. We build the small, findable site that covers all three, with a waiting list instead of a contact form that says no.
The franchise fee never stops, and the pupil is not yours
Most instructors start on a franchise because it fills a diary from nothing, which is genuinely hard to do otherwise. The trouble is that the arrangement has no natural end. Years later the fee is still going out every week, for pupils you would now get on your own, and the school still owns the relationship and the phone number they rang.
Going independent is not really a marketing problem, it is a findability problem. Learners and their parents look in a very small number of places: Google, the map, and whoever a friend recommends. If you are findable in those three, you fill a diary without paying a percentage of it away. If you are not, the franchise is doing something you genuinely cannot do yourself, and it is worth what it costs.
The site is the mechanism. It does not need to be big, and it does not need to be clever.
What we would put on a driving instructor's site
Small, findable, and built around a waiting list rather than a contact form.
Your rates and packages, stated
Hourly, block booking, intensive courses. Learners price-shop and an unstated rate is assumed to be a high one.
Test centres you teach for, named
Learners search by test centre because route familiarity genuinely matters. Almost no instructor bothers to say.
A waiting list, not a dead end
Being six weeks out is fine if you say so and offer the list. Silence loses every one of those enquiries permanently.
Manual, automatic, or both
Automatic demand has grown fast and automatic instructors are scarcer. If you teach it, it should be impossible to miss.
Pupils in their own words
Named pass stories with permission. No invented figures and no star averages, on your site or anybody else's.
One tap to text you
Most learners are seventeen and would rather send a message than make a phone call. Make that the easy option.
The closest real thing we have
Not an instructor. A one-person teaching business, live on its own domain.
Kent Chemistry Tutor
Live at kentchemistrytutor.co.uk, built by us, on an annual care plan, in Maidstone. One person teaching by the hour, chosen by parents as much as by students, sold on stated credentials and word of mouth, with availability that runs out.
That is your business with a different subject. See every client we have live, where concepts are labelled as concepts.
Three places, and that is genuinely all
Driving instructor plus a town. Automatic driving lessons plus a town. Driving instructor near a named test centre. Those three patterns account for most of what a learner types, and they are all local, all low competition compared to almost any other trade, and all winnable by one person with a decent page.
Your Google Business Profile matters as much as the site, because the map results sit at the top, and instructors are among the worst at filling theirs in. We set it up as part of a build with a real service area rather than a pin on your house.
The third place is a recommendation, and what a website does for that is catch it. A parent told your name at work will search it that evening. What they find decides whether the recommendation turns into a booking.
Built first, paid for after
Tell us about your work and within 48 hours you get a link to a real site built for it. If it is not right, say so and there is no cost and no chase. No card and no sales call.
A focused instructor site with rates, test centres and a waiting list is £395, and for a single instructor that is genuinely all you need. £650 buys more depth if you run intensive courses or multiple vehicles. You own it either way.
Care plans start at £45 a month with no minimum term, and most single instructors do not need one. We will say so rather than sell you one.
What driving instructors ask us
The driving schools send me all the pupils I can take. Why go independent online?
Because the franchise fee is a fixed cost that never stops, and because the pupil belongs to the school rather than to you. An instructor with their own site takes pupils directly at their own rate and keeps the lot. The maths is usually stark once you put a year's franchise fees next to the cost of a website. The sensible transition is not to quit on Monday, it is to build the direct route and let it take over gradually while the franchise fills the gaps.
How do I deal with being fully booked most of the time?
With a waiting list, not a contact form that effectively says no. Learning to drive is a decision people make and then act on within a few days, so an instructor who is full and says nothing loses every one of those enquiries permanently. An instructor who says currently about six weeks, join the list, converts a good share of them, because most learners would rather wait for somebody recommended than take whoever is free tomorrow.
Should I publish my pass rate?
Only if you can back it up, and be careful how you phrase it. A pass rate is a number people will check against the official statistics and against what they are told elsewhere, and an unverifiable claim does more harm than no claim. What works better and is entirely honest is naming the test centres you teach for, saying how long you have been instructing, and letting pupils describe their own experience in their own words. We do not put invented figures or star averages on any site we build.
Do I need to say which test centre I use?
Yes, and it is one of the highest value things on the page. Learners and their parents search by test centre constantly, because familiarity with the routes genuinely matters and everybody knows it. An instructor who names the centres they work out of, and says something useful about the roads around them, will be found by people searching that exact thing. It is a small detail that almost nobody bothers with.
Do you build for driving instructors?
No, we have not built for one, and we are not going to illustrate this page with a stock learner plate and let you assume. What we have live is a private tutor in Maidstone, which is the closest genuine comparison we can offer: a one-person teaching business, booked by hour, chosen by parents as much as students, sold on credentials and word of mouth. It is linked below and you can go and look at it.
Towns with a page of their own
We are a Southampton studio and we work wherever the job is. These towns have a page of their own on what the local market looks like and who you are up against.
Other trades, and four plain guides
Each trade has a page of its own. The guides cover what a site costs, how a directory listing compares, your Google listing, and paying in parts.
