Web design for gardeners and lawn care, from £395
A gardener sells a regular visit and a face people trust at the side gate. We build gardening websites around the round, the visit and the price, with one-off jobs in a section of their own.
A working preview for your business takes us 48 hours, and you see it before any money changes hands.
A gardener sells a regular visit, not a project
Most websites for garden businesses are built like a landscaper's: big photographs of finished patios and a contact form. That is the wrong shape for someone who cuts grass, trims hedges and keeps borders tidy on a fortnightly round.
The person looking for a gardener is usually one of three people. An older homeowner who can no longer manage the garden and wants the same reliable face each time. A busy household that wants the lawn done without thinking about it. Or a landlord, agent or small business that needs grounds kept presentable and an invoice at the end of the month. None of them is buying a transformation. They are buying turning up.
So a gardener's website has a different job. It has to show which days you are in which area, what a regular visit includes, what it roughly costs, and that you are someone a person can comfortably leave the back gate unlocked for.
What a gardening and lawn care website needs
Shaped around a round, not a portfolio.
Regular visits, explained
Weekly, fortnightly or monthly, what is done on each visit, and how it changes between the growing season and winter. This is the product, so it leads.
The round, by area and day
Which places you cover and, if you want, which days you are there. A new customer on an existing street is the most profitable one you can add.
One-off jobs listed separately
Overgrown garden clearances, hedge reductions, first cuts, turfing, tidy-ups before a sale. Different customer, different price, own section.
Green waste, answered
Whether you take it away, whether there is a charge and whether you are a registered waste carrier. It comes up on first calls again and again.
Who is coming to the house
Your name, a photograph of you, how long you have been doing it and your insurance. For a customer living alone this section matters more than any other.
A short enquiry route
Postcode, garden size in plain terms, what they want done and how often. Or a tap to call or WhatsApp for those who would rather talk.
No maintenance gardener among our clients yet
We would rather tell you than leave you to assume.
- We build for a landscaping and tree care firm, and that client is named on our landscaping page, where it belongs. That firm lists lawn care among its landscaping services, but it is a landscaper first, and project landscaping is not the same trade as a maintenance round.
- We have built preview sites for gardeners and garden services, and this page is written from that work.
- The free preview is the test. You see a working page for your own business before paying, and you judge it on what is in front of you.
Gardener searches are about the nearest few streets
People search "gardener" or "garden maintenance" or "lawn mowing" with the name of their town or their part of it. They expect someone local, and they are right to: nobody wants to pay for a gardener's travelling time. That makes the list of places on your site the most useful thing on it for search, provided each place is somewhere you would take a customer on.
Lawn care is its own set of searches. Scarifying, aeration, lawn treatment, moss in lawn, returfing. If you offer a treatment programme, a page that explains what happens in each season will be found by people who have looked at a patchy lawn and gone to find out why. That is a customer who has already decided to pay somebody.
On the map, your Google Business Profile does most of the work. We make the site and the profile agree on your name, number, services and area. We do not promise where you will appear, because nobody honestly can.
What to photograph when the work is upkeep
Maintenance does not produce dramatic pictures, and it does not need to. What works is ordinary gardens looking cared for: striped lawns, clean edges, a hedge with a level top, a border after weeding. Take them in decent light, from the same spot if you can, and a season of visits becomes a gallery.
The one dramatic picture a gardener does have is the clearance. An overgrown garden before, the same garden after a day's work. Two or three of those pairs near the top of the one-off jobs section will bring in more clearance work than any description.
If you are not sure what you have is good enough, send it anyway. We would rather pick six honest photographs of your own work than use a stock picture of a lawn you have never cut, and we do not use stock for that.
A working preview, then a fixed price
Give us the name you trade under and the area you cover. In 48 hours we send you a link to a real page for your gardening business. If you look at it and decide against, nothing is owed.
For most gardeners a one-page site at £395 is the right size: regular visits, one-off jobs, the round and a way to get in touch. A full site at £650 suits a business with a lawn treatment programme, commercial grounds work or several services that each deserve a page. Builds with custom functionality start at £1,200. Whichever it is, the build can be paid in three parts within twelve months at the same price.
Care plans start at £45 a month, there is no minimum term, and you do not have to take one.
What gardeners ask us
My round is nearly full. Why would I want a website?
To choose who fills the gaps. A full round still loses a customer or two each year, and the replacements usually come from whoever happens to ask. A site that names the streets and villages you already work in lets you fill a gap with a garden two doors from an existing one, instead of a drive across town. It also lets you bring new customers in at this year's rate.
Should I show prices for regular visits?
A starting figure per visit or per hour, with a note that it depends on the size of the garden, is useful. Regular garden maintenance is a recurring cost, and people want to know roughly what they are signing up to before they ask you round. If you price by the garden after a first look, say that, and say the first visit to quote is free if it is.
How is this different from your landscaping page?
Different work and a different customer. Landscaping is a project: a patio, a new lawn, a redesign, quoted once. Garden maintenance is a relationship: the same person every fortnight for years. A landscaper's site is a portfolio. A gardener's site is closer to a service sign-up, built around the round, the frequency and the trust involved in being let through a side gate. If you do both, we would give each its own section.
Winter is dead for me. Can the site help?
It can help you sell what winter work there is: hedge reduction, leaf clearance, pruning, pressure washing, fence and shed repairs, tidy-ups before a sale. A winter services section, brought to the top of the home page from November, puts that in front of your regular customers as well as new ones. It will not turn January into June, and we would not claim it could.
Do I need qualifications or memberships listed?
List what you have. If you hold a spraying certificate for weedkiller, a waste carrier registration for taking green waste away, or public liability insurance, say so, because commercial and letting customers will ask. If you have none of those, the site can lean on your experience, your photographs and what your customers say on Google instead.
Towns with a page of their own
We are a Southampton studio and we work wherever the job is. These towns have a page of their own on what the local market looks like and who you are up against.
Other trades, and four plain guides
Each trade has a page of its own. The guides cover what a site costs, how a directory listing compares, your Google listing, and paying in parts.
