Web design for heating engineers, from £395
The breakdowns pay the bills and the installs pay for the year. Almost every heating engineer's website is built the wrong way round.
A new boiler is researched for a fortnight before anybody rings. We build the page they read during that fortnight. No heating clients yet, and we say so on this page rather than showing you a stock boiler.
The breakdowns pay the bills and the installs pay for the year
Almost every heating engineer we have spoken to has the same shape of business: a steady flow of breakdowns and services that keeps things ticking, and a much smaller number of installations that actually make the year work. And almost every one of them has a website built the wrong way round, pitched at the breakdown, with installation as a bullet point.
That is not a small mistake. A new boiler is a planned purchase of well over a thousand pounds that a household researches for a fortnight, reading, comparing and asking friends. During that fortnight they are looking for exactly the kind of page most engineers have never written: what you fit, what it realistically costs, what happens on the day, what the warranty actually covers, and whether a repair would be the better answer.
The firms winning that work online are frequently not the best engineers. They are the ones who wrote the page.
What we would put on a heating engineer's site
Built around installation, because that is where the year is won.
Boiler installation as the main event
What you fit, realistic costs, what the day involves, the warranty in plain terms. The page a household reads during the fortnight they are deciding.
Heat pumps, honestly explained
What they do and do not do in a normal British house, what they cost, and when they are the wrong answer. Almost nobody is writing this well.
Repairs and servicing, fast
A number at the top for the no-heating-in-January call. Separate from the install route, because it is a different person entirely.
Service plans, sold on the page
Price and what is included. Recurring income smooths a brutally seasonal trade, and most engineers only ever mention it verbally.
Gas Safe number, not a logo
The registration number itself, plus cover levels as figures. Checkable is the whole point.
Enquiries that arrive useful
Property type, current boiler, how many bathrooms, whether they want a like for like swap. You quote from facts instead of guessing.
No heating clients yet, and we will not pretend otherwise
Here is the closest real thing, live and checkable.
A large considered home purchase
Shakeshaft and Jones, live at shakeshaftjones.co.uk. The same fortnight of research, the same nervous homeowner, the same need for photographs and a process.
Planned work next to emergencies
Direct Landscaping and Tree Care, live at directlandscapingandtreecare.co.uk, has your exact two-customer problem and a strongly seasonal year.
Live since September 2026.
September is when this is decided
Heating is the most seasonal trade there is. Boiler searches climb through autumn, spike on the first genuinely cold week, and collapse in spring. That has a practical consequence: the pages you want ranking in November need to exist in July, because search results do not appear overnight and the firms that already rank got there months earlier.
It also means the front of your site should change with the season. Installations and service plans through late summer and autumn, when people are thinking ahead. Repairs and emergency availability through the cold months, when they are not thinking at all, just cold. That is most of what a care plan is actually for in your trade.
The Google Business Profile carries the breakdown work, so we set it up as part of a build, with hours that honestly reflect whether you answer out of hours.
Built first, then you choose
Tell us about the business and within 48 hours you get a link to a real working site built for it. If it is not right, say so and there is no cost and no chase. No card, no deposit, no call to sit through.
A site that puts installation where it belongs and handles repairs properly is £395. £650 buys a real page per service including heat pumps and service plans. £1,200 is for a larger firm needing closer to a system. You own it either way, and a build can be split across three payments within twelve months at the same price.
Care plans start at £45 a month with no minimum term. In a seasonal trade that is genuinely useful, because the point of it is changing the site as your year changes.
What heating engineers ask us
Boiler installs are the money. How do I stop being the boiler repair man?
By making the install the thing your site is obviously about. Most heating engineers have a website built around repairs and servicing, with installation as one line in a list, and then wonder why the phone only rings for breakdowns. A new boiler is a planned purchase of well over a thousand pounds that somebody researches for a fortnight. Give it a real page with what you fit, what a typical install costs, what the day looks like and what the warranty is, and you start appearing in the research rather than only in the emergency.
Heat pumps. Worth building pages for yet?
If you actually fit them, yes, and it is one of the few genuinely open opportunities left in the trade. Search demand for heat pump installation has grown faster than the number of firms writing sensibly about it, and most of what exists online is either manufacturer marketing or government guidance. An engineer who can explain honestly what a heat pump does and does not do in a normal British house, what it costs, and when it is the wrong answer, will be found by people who have been searching for exactly that and not finding it.
How do I compete with the big national boiler companies?
Not on price and not on their ground. What they cannot do is be local, be a named person, and give an honest opinion. Their sales process is a fixed quote from a website with an upsell, and a lot of people actively dislike it. Your advantage is that you will look at the actual house, tell somebody their existing boiler has five good years left when it does, and answer the phone yourself. The website's job is to make that difference visible before the call, because otherwise a homeowner assumes everyone is the same and picks the name they have heard on the radio.
Should I sell service plans through the site?
If you run them, put them on the site properly with the price and what is included, because they are the most valuable thing in your business. Recurring service income smooths a trade that is otherwise brutally seasonal, and it gives you a customer list to ring in September. Most engineers sell plans verbally at the end of a job and never anywhere else, which means only the customers who happened to ask ever hear about them.
Do you build for heating engineers?
No. We have no heating or plumbing clients live, and we would rather say that than run a stock photograph of a boiler and let you assume. What we can show you is live work in trades with the same shape: a home improvements firm selling large considered jobs, and a landscaping and tree care firm running planned work alongside emergency call-outs. Both are linked below on their own domains.
Towns with a page of their own
We are a Southampton studio and we work wherever the job is. These towns have a page of their own on what the local market looks like and who you are up against.
Other trades, and four plain guides
Each trade has a page of its own. The guides cover what a site costs, how a directory listing compares, your Google listing, and paying in parts.
