Handyman and property maintenance · Built for the trade

Web design for handyman services, from £395

Your customer has a list of small jobs and four questions: do you do them, do you come here, what does it cost and will you turn up. We build handyman websites that answer all four on the first screen.

We make a working preview for your business in 48 hours. You pay nothing until you have seen it.

The honest version

The job list is the pitch

A handyman is hired by people who have a list. A dripping tap that is not worth a plumber's call-out, a door that sticks, a curtain pole, a gate latch, a bit of sealant round the bath. None of it is big enough to chase a specialist for, and all of it has been waiting for months.

That customer is not comparing portfolios. They want to know four things: do you do the jobs on my list, do you cover my street, what will it roughly cost, and will you actually turn up. A handyman website that answers those four on the first screen will be rung ahead of a prettier one that makes people hunt.

The other customer is a landlord or letting agent with the same list every month across several properties. They want to know you are insured, that you invoice properly and that you can be given a key. One page aimed at them can be worth more than the rest of the site put together.

What we build

What belongs on a handyman's website

Six parts. None of them is decoration.

A job list people can scan

The common jobs named one by one under clear headings. It is the most read part of any handyman site, and it is what search engines match against.

Rates and a minimum charge

Hourly, half-day and full-day, or a guide if you prefer. Customers bundle their jobs to suit, which makes each visit worth your while.

What you do not do

Gas, mains electrics, anything structural. Stated calmly, with who to call instead. It builds more trust than another line about being reliable.

Your patch, by name

Handyman work is the most local trade there is. The towns, villages and postcodes you cover go on the page in full.

A page for landlords and agents

Insurance, invoicing, key holding, turnaround between tenancies and how to send a job list over. Written for someone managing more than one property.

Photographs of ordinary jobs done well

A neat shelf, a rehung door, a tidy bead of sealant. Small jobs photographed properly say more about care than a grand project would.

Proof

Shakeshaft and Jones, Middlewich

A firm we build for that lists property maintenance and repairs among its services.

Shakeshaft and Jones Home Improvements

Painters, decorators and property maintenance, trading in Middlewich since 2016. Live at shakeshaftjones.co.uk, built by us and carrying our footer link. Property maintenance and repairs is one of the six services on the site, alongside decorating and pressure washing, for homes and commercial premises.

The site has an availability page so customers can see how far ahead the diary runs, and each of the two people in the business has their own contact route, so an enquiry reaches the right phone first time.

To be straight about it: they are decorators first, and maintenance is part of the offer. We do not have a client who trades purely as a handyman. Read the case study, or see every client we have live.

Getting found

Handyman searches are small and local

The main search is "handyman" and a place name, often a suburb or a village, not the city. After that it breaks into the jobs themselves: flat-pack assembly, TV wall mounting, door hanging, shelf fitting, odd jobs. Each of those is a search in its own right, and few handyman sites have a page that mentions it by name.

That is the opening. A full site has a short page for each group of jobs and names the places you cover, so that a search for a specific job in a specific village has something to land on. The map results still lean on your Google Business Profile, and we make sure the profile and the site say the same things about what you do and where.

Nobody can promise you a ranking, and we do not. What we can say is that this is a trade where plenty of the competition has no site at all, so a clear, quick one that lists real jobs and real places starts from a better position than it would in most trades.

Repeat custom

The second visit is where the money is

A handyman's best customer is the one who rings again. A website helps with that in a way people do not expect: it gives the customer something to pass on. A link in a text is easier to forward than a number scribbled on a receipt, and it carries your rates and your job list with it.

We add a line for existing customers near the contact details, a simple "used us before? send your next list here", so a repeat booking does not have to go through the same form as a stranger. On a care plan you also get a short link and a QR code that open the Google review box directly, to put on an invoice or show on your phone at the end of a job.

For landlords, the equivalent is a single place to send a schedule of works. If an agent can email one list and get one invoice back, they tend to keep using the same person.

How it works

You see the site, then you decide

Tell us what you are called and roughly what you do. 48 hours later you have a link to a working handyman page for your own business. If it is not what you wanted, you owe nothing and that is the end of it.

A one-page site with your job list, rates, area and a request form is £395, and for many handymen that is all that is needed. A full site at £650 adds a page for each group of jobs and a landlord page, and is the one to choose if you want to be found for individual jobs. Larger builds with custom functionality, such as online booking tied to a diary, start at £1,200. Any of them can be paid in three parts within twelve months at the same price.

Care plans begin at £45 a month. There is no minimum term and no obligation to take one.

Questions

What handymen ask us

I do a bit of everything. How do you fit that on one website?

By grouping it the way a customer thinks. Nobody searches for a general list. They search for someone to hang a door, put up shelves, assemble a wardrobe, fix a fence panel or sort a list of small jobs before a house sale. We arrange your work under a handful of plain headings, such as indoor repairs, outdoor jobs, flat-pack and fitting, and landlord work, with the common jobs named under each. The customer sees their job within a few seconds and knows you do it.

Should I publish my hourly rate or a minimum charge?

We think so. A stated minimum charge and a half-day and full-day rate tell a customer straight away whether their one loose hinge is worth booking on its own or better saved up with other jobs. It also removes the awkward part of the first phone call. If your rates vary by area or job, a guide range with a short explanation works just as well.

How do I stop getting asked for gas and electrical work I cannot do?

Say it on the site, plainly and near the top. A short section on what you do not take on, with a line that gas work needs a Gas Safe registered engineer and that you leave mains electrical work to a qualified electrician, protects you and saves the customer a call. It reads as professional, not as a limitation.

Is a website worth it when I am already busy from local Facebook groups?

Facebook groups are good for work and we would not tell you to stop. The weakness is that a recommendation there is gone in a day, and you start again each time. A website stays put. When someone is given your name, they search for it, and what they find decides whether they ring. It also lets you raise your prices with new customers who have never been quoted the old ones.

Can customers book a slot online?

They can if you want it, though a request form often suits this trade better than a live diary, because jobs vary too much in length to be booked blind. A form that collects the list of jobs, photographs, the address and preferred days gives you what you need to offer a slot yourself. If you do want proper online booking, we can add it.
