The honest version

A driveway is a large purchase from a trade people are wary of

A new driveway or patio is one of the bigger things a household spends money on outside the house itself, and it is bought once. The customer has no experience to draw on, has probably been warned about cowboys by a neighbour, and cannot see the part of the job that matters most, because the sub-base is buried on day two.

That is why they research harder than they would for almost any other trade. They look at several firms, they look for an address, they look for jobs near them, and they look for any sign of pressure. A paving contractor with a proper website is already ahead of one with a mobile number on a leaflet, simply because there is something to check.

So the site has two jobs. Show the finished surface, which is what makes someone want it. And show the method and the business behind it, which is what makes them comfortable paying for it.

What we build

What we would put on a driveway and paving website

The parts that carry a cautious customer from interest to a survey.

Jobs by surface, with before and after

Block paving, resin, tarmac, gravel, patios. Each job with the drive as it was, the drive as you left it, and the town it is in.

What goes underneath

Excavation, membrane, sub-base, compaction, edging, drainage. A short illustrated run through the stages, so the customer can see where a low quote has cut corners.

Drainage and permeable options

How water is dealt with on your jobs, in plain words, and a note that you advise on what each property needs at the survey.

The business, in the open

Trading address, years established, insurance, any workmanship cover you offer and exactly what it covers. Stated as fact, not as a slogan.

A survey request, not a hard sell

Postcode, surface they are considering, rough size, photographs of the existing drive. With a line that the quote is written and there is no obligation.

Cleaning, sealing and repairs

Pressure washing, re-sanding, sealing and sunken area repairs on their own page. Smaller jobs that keep the phone ringing between installs.

Proof

Direct Landscaping and Tree Care, Southampton

A firm we build for that lays driveways as one of four services.

Direct Landscaping and Tree Care

Live at directlandscapingandtreecare.co.uk since September 2026, built by us and carrying our footer link. Driveways have their own section on the site, covering block paving, resin, concrete and asphalt, along with resurfacing, sealing and pressure washing. Patios and paving sit under landscaping, with tree care and fencing beside them.

Each service has its own page and its own enquiry route, and the places they cover around Southampton are grouped by district instead of being crammed into one long line.

It is one client, and driveways are part of a wider business. We do not have a client who lays driveways and nothing else. See every client we have live.

Getting found

Driveway searches start with a surface

By the time someone is searching, they have often chosen a material, or are choosing between two. Resin driveways. Block paving. Tarmac drive. Indian sandstone patio. Porcelain paving. Then a town. A general "driveways" page competes with every national directory. A page about resin driveways in your area, with your own resin jobs on it, competes with far fewer.

There is a second group: people comparing. Resin or block paving, how long a tarmac drive lasts, whether a drive needs planning permission. A short, honest answer to each on your own site brings in customers early, while they are still deciding, and it is the kind of page other firms rarely bother to write.

Your Google Business Profile still decides most of what happens on the map, and reviews there matter a great deal in this trade. We keep the site and the profile consistent with each other. What we will not do is promise a ranking.

Trust

Take the pressure out, in writing

The fear with driveways is specific: a price that is only good today, a large cash deposit, a firm that cannot be found afterwards. A website is the place to rule each of those out before the customer has to ask.

We would put your process on the page as numbered steps. A survey at a time that suits them. A written quote with the specification on it. Time to think. A stated deposit and payment schedule, if you take one. A start date and a rough duration. What happens if they find a problem afterwards and who they ring. Every one of those is something you already do. Writing it down is what makes it count.

If you belong to a trade body or an approved installer scheme for a surface you lay, name it and link to your listing so it can be checked. If you do not, leave it out. An unverifiable badge does more harm than no badge.

How it works

We build it first, you judge it second

Send us the business name and a few job photographs. In 48 hours you receive a link to a working page for your driveway and paving business. No deposit is taken for that, and if you do not go ahead you owe nothing.

A one-page site is £395 and covers your surfaces, a gallery, your process, your area and a survey request. Most paving firms are better served by the £650 full site, because a page for each surface is what gets found. Larger builds with custom functionality start at £1,200. The build can be split into three payments within twelve months, and the price stays the same.

Care plans start at £45 a month, with no minimum term. They are optional and the site is yours either way.

Questions

What driveway and paving contractors ask us

Driveway firms have a bad name because of doorstep sellers. Can a website really fix that?

It cannot fix the industry, but it can separate you from it. The things a doorstep seller cannot show are exactly what a website can: a fixed business address, a landline or a mobile that has been the same for years, jobs photographed on named streets, a written quote process and no pressure to decide on the day. Put those where a nervous customer will see them and you have answered the worry before it is spoken.

Should I mention planning rules and drainage?

Yes, briefly and carefully. Many homeowners have heard that paving over a front garden can need planning permission unless the surface drains properly, and they are unsure what applies to them. A short plain section saying that you design drainage into every job and will tell them at the survey what their property needs shows competence. Point them to their council or the government's planning guidance for the rule itself, and do not give legal advice on the page.

Do I need a page for each surface?

On a full site, we would. Someone who has decided on resin is searching for resin driveways, not driveways in general, and they want to see resin jobs, not block paving. A page each for block paving, resin, tarmac and patios lets each be found on its own and lets you say honestly where each surface suits and where it does not.

Can I put a price per square metre on the site?

You can give a guide range for each surface, as long as you say what moves it: excavation depth, the sub-base, drainage, edging, access and waste removal. Customers get wildly different quotes for driveways and do not understand why. A firm that explains what the money is spent on looks more trustworthy than one that only gives a number, and far more than one that gives none.

Is it worth showing jobs from years ago?

It is one of the strongest things you can show. A driveway that still looks level and clean several years on is the proof a customer most wants and can least easily get. If you can go back and photograph an older job, with the owner's permission, put it next to the picture from the day you finished.
